If you’re looking for the benefits of an air mattress without the hassle of air pumps and cords, the Outback Mat has you covered! No need to worry about hand pumping or noisy electric pumps - the Outback Mat inflates itself. The innovative Qwikflate valve makes inflation quick and easy. Its vertically-cored foam design makes rolling and storing the mat easy all the while helping to minimize weight. The use of 30D elastic fabric on the top creates a super-soft feel, while a 150D fabric bottom makes the mat easy to clean and extremely durable. These mattresses are super plush and comfortable. We mostly use it for sleep overs and occasionally for camping. The self inflation doesn’t work great out of the box, and we have to store it rolled up so I don’t know if it will improve, but this seems like a fair trade off for the thickness and comfort. The mattress was purchased in May 2022 but developed a slow leak after a few uses, it was quickly replaced under warranty by Alps and we are very satisfied with the service. I will add a rating for durability after we use the mattress for a few months. Finally, I can sleep when camping! Comfortable and I was able to roll and sleep on my side. Only drawback was it doesn't come with a pump which you need at the end to inflate to firmness. And, pump sacks don't fit the valve, valve is larger.Perfect for car camping and raises the comfort in a tent or on the floor. Durable and customizable.Bottom Line, I've owned this air mattress for a year, and I have loved the customizable comfort and toughness. This mat has travelled with me for 5 months of pre-deployment training all over the state and been with me to 4 forward areas. Whether provided a mattress on a bunk or a simple cot, this mat made the difference in providing a restful night's sleep in every environment. This was largely because it has both foam and air, and can be made firmer to counteract a terribly over-soft military mattress, but also be allowed to be softer to provide comfort on a cot or even the ground.Personally, I think the designers struck the perfect balance: It's thick enough to allow even a side sleeper to feel cradled when the mat is on a firm surface and thin enough that it packs down reasonably small for portability. It's not THAT small, of course; but while my fellow soldiers may have had some jokes when they saw me carrying this looped through the top of my ruck sack, they soon learned that it's comfort and versatility was worth the extra bulk. Now, it IS an air mattress, and any valve out there will leak at least a small amount of air over time. I put a few breathes in every other week or so, and have had no problems. The plastic valve has been somewhat tricky to get lined up closed at times, but once you get the feel for it, it's no big deal. This mattress is not made for grunts or ground pounders, where every pound is sacred and any bulk is fat to be trimmed. This is great for mechanized troops, static deployed troops, or National Guard soldiers that travel and stay at or near their armory. As I said above, I traveled a LOT for pre-deployment, and I stayed in armories on cots many nights. This air mattress saved me a world of pain, making my cot or my Yukon a comfortable home away from home.I love this mattress so much that I'll be gifting this one to some lucky troop when I come home and I'm buying a new one. The exact same model. I don't know how to endorse this product any more fervently than that!HI I just wanted to say thank you. My husband received one last year for car camping. We are retirees and comfort are the reason for sure. With all our aches, pains and easy to inflate was a game changer. This year, I got one so when we go to cabins, we can add it for more comfort. Thanks for thinking of us old timers. Keep up the good work.I Purchased the extra large version to be a mattress for a bed I am making for my van. First impressions: its big. It sits in between a hiking/tenting mattress and an inflatable bed used for sleepovers at home. This is the size of a twin mattress. It is comfortable. Definitely not a hiking mattress. It seems rather expensive for what it is.Concerns/Issues So Far:The instructions for inflating were incorrect. The small tiny copy of instructions were obsolete as well as the videos on the manufacture's site. After an hour of net surfing I found the solution right on the Amazon product page in one of the pictures. The valve pivots on an axis like a gyroscope. It does not turn clock or counter clockwise as stated instructions state.Instructions say to keep stored inflated in a flat horizontal position. While this makes sense to keep the memory foam from permanently being compressed after thinking about it, still it is counter intuitive as to what one thinks about storing camping gear. As big as it is, proper storage is a problem unless you have open space under a bed somewhere.Update:I slept on this mat for two straight weeks. My conclusion is very mixed. The mat was big and a great substitute for a bed in my DIY conversion van. However, the mat is very firm. Although you can adjust firmness by amount of air, it goes from like sleeping-on-a-board firmness to almost no support. There isn't much room in between. Overall, if you are looking for a self-inflating mat which big and thick then this is a good mat to have. I plan to continue on using it.However, I down graded to average for simply not being able to store the mat in a compressed rolled up manner. The more I thought about it, camping gear needs to be stored in the smallest reasonable amount of space. The manufacture wants you to store the mat in its fully inflated dimensions. At its size, it defeats the entire purpose for inflatable mats.Is this ever the most comfortable camp pad I've ever slept on! I love the width because in side sleeping neither your knees or bottom hang over an edge and i feel no ground at all under shoulder and hips! And nice and warm! I'm the envy of the other campers in our group. Yes it's big and heavier than most but I'll put up with that because of such comfort.I did research some similar pads from other manufacturers and this was the best deal. I'm very happy with it after several camping trips. I store it flat with valves open under the bed.
