Soft and squidgy, much more comfortable than the thin (but presumably higher-end) versions in commercial gyms. It's a decently well-known brand though and the quality is good given the price.I chose this partly for its compact size so it's easy to store. It's just about long and wide enough for a 5'5" person for sit-ups or knee press-ups but would not recommend otherwise.Also note that the trade off for the squidginess is that it does scratch easily especially if you have pets (my cat really loved his new blue "scratching board"!) so I leave a towel over it or slide it under the sofa when not in use. If you like your equipment pristine it's probably not the best choice.Overall very pleased that I got this as it suits my purposes just fine.
