This product fits really nicely in my aquarium. It is quite hard to clean though since it is similar to blanket material. But I can tell my reptile likes the texture of the mat since she’s on it for most of the time. The mat fit perfectly in the 40 gallon we have! It is a bit of a pain to clean but doesn't hold water or any other liquid in the material until it evaporates. My snake loves itUsed this as a background for my scorpion tank. Arrived on time and in good condition. I also layed a small piece down on the cool side of the tank. Would definitely purchase again.I use this for my Axolotl. It’s safe for them but it does take some work to set up in the tank since it floats. I’ve been completed on how it looks in my tank and I agree. Pieces will come off of it. Hasn’t been an issue for my Axolotl but I take the strands out after I find them.Pros:- Can be used in aquariums- Looks great. It’s like turf for animals.- Size fit perfectlyCons:- If used in an aquarium it will float, needs to be weighed down on all sides and middle.- Pieces come off it. Could be ingested by pets.Overall this mat is pretty nice. It's very soft, much like a shag carpet. It doesn't really look like moss in my opinion (not even like fake moss), but rather a shaggy rug. It's soft, but came with stains and odd dark patches. I used this for about a month at the bottom of my White's Tree frog tank, and this carpet just soaks and holds water like a sponge. I use a fogger in the tank and this carpet just remains sopping wet and disgusting. Because of this, it never dries and just retains and intensifies the odor of frog poop and urine. Washing it is pretty disgusting. This might be ok for a completely dry setup, like a desert one, but certainly not for anything that will be even remotely humid. It's not worse the hassle to return so I just tossed it instead. Still on the hunt for a better false bottom...Words don’t accurately describe my bitter feelings towards this product. I bought the Exo Terra Moss Mat, Small 18" x 18" because it was one of the few that would fit in my chameleon cage; apparently it’s not a common dimension for reptile carpets. I saw the poor review on it and figured it couldn’t be that bad after all I’ve never had an issue with the Exo Terra brand. Now I’m a realist I’m aware that if you want an amazing cage liner or substrate you’re going to have to invest more than the $11.14 that I bought this product for. I’m also aware that stock photos are made to give the best impression of the product they are selling. But when I opened the Amazon box and saw little bits of green fluff I was starting to feel a little disappointed and that feeling hit home when I took the mat out of the box it came in. The stock picture shows a happy little dart frog sitting on some super realistic fake moss and the box cutout were you can see the product makes it look just like what was pictured on the box. In reality its green fun foam (the type you can get at a craft store) with strands of green fibers which I think maybe cotton because they were a little absorbent “glued” to it. Now when I say “glued” I mean someone slathered some glue to the fun foam and stuck the fiber on, which left a LOT of loose ones which I plucked off. I ended up with and hand full and a slightly spot bare mat. But they used green fun foam so it wasn’t too obvious. At this point I was starting to feel a little ripped off but didn’t want to go through the hassle of returning it. So in the cage it went… sort of. It wasn’t entirely square and I did have to cut it a little but then once cut to the right size I realized it still didn’t want to fit. You see they sell it to you rolled up in a box which isn’t a problem for most liners and mats but the foam to the day I threw it out never sat flat. This at first didn’t seem like a huge problem with a few rolls but I feed my chameleon a variety of feeders such a dubia roaches. Dubia don’t like light and don’t climb which left them scurrying around the bottom searching for a hiding place until they found the rolls and hid under the mat which left me multiple times fishing them out to try and get my chameleon to eat them only to have them scurry back under. Now the above product is probably around a two star product but what follows is why I don’t think this mat is deserving of any stars at all and why I’m quite disappointed with Exo Terra as a brand. You know those loose strands I was talking about, well the ones that were still attached some when stretched out measured about two or more inches which became a problem with feeders. Crickets and roaches along with other feeders have hairs or spiky things on their legs and exoskeleton which can become entangled in the mat. If you have a fast eater like a chameleon and they gobble up a tangled in the fiber you run a risk of impaction which can be fatal. I managed to stop my chameleon from eating some of the fibers stuck to a cricket which probably would have killed him. After that I took out the mat and through it in the garbage. In the end I bought “Duck Smooth Top Easy Non-Adhesive Shelf Liner, Marble Gray” which was recommended on a reptile forum. I’ve had it a day already and its working great, it lays flat in the cage, is easy to clean, the no slip backing prevents it from needing to be adhered to the cage, but most importantly it’s not going to hurt my chameleon. This matt is soft and lush like moss. My African fat-tail gecko actually runs around more often and explores since putting this mat in.I brought this for my white's tree frogs has this looked really nice & easy to keep clean rather then doing live plants e.t.c with special peat blocks , when I got it out of the box a few bits fell off ! but I thought once I had put it in the tank it would be fine & settle flat as it is a little fluffy I know it is meant to look mossy !Any way I got up this morning & fed my boys with crickets has I looked again I could see that 1 of the frogs ( i have 4 ) had the moss in their mouth , i removed the moss with difficulty has he had it firmly in his mouth but i got there in the end , if i had not my frog would of had no chance of digesting it resulting in one very sick frog or worse !!! i so i have now removed the moss mat out of the tank , if i didn't have to cut it i would be sending this product back pronto , i am going to go with another make that is not fluffy & comes away from the mat .so i would not recommend this product at all !Great package and delivery arrive quick and perfect! I deffo buying more on here! Thank youI was really excited to receive this as I already have a smaller size one in a different tank for my tree frogs unfortunately this one didn't turn up but was fully refunded very quickly so not too much of an issue as I've now punched another one from a near by store. I would 100% recommend this its so much easier than economic soil less mess washable and reuse ableGreat and softUsed it for two leopard geckos who had previously been on sand. They both seemed much more lively as soon as I had put it in. It was a little big but I just cut it down to size. Would recommend to anyone with geckos :)
